I spoke at Muddy Web #4
on “The path to rebuilding Ameba Blog’s member-facing systems.”
To make the most of a chance to invest in the tech,
we set a mission and built a shared picture of the goal the system should reach.
Requirements were fuzzy (passed down by word of mouth, or sitting in the codebase),
so we defined them properly and redefined what was actually worth building.
To fix existing problems, and to meet the spec,
I talked through the thinking we used for system design and technology choices.
If you do similar work,
if you’re about to pick a stack,
or if you engineer the design of each step in development,
I hope it’s useful.
